New Entry Policy: Argentina Allows Visa-Free Travel for Chinese and Dominican Citizens with Valid U.S. Visas

Updated: August 2025
By: Buenos Aires Attorneys – Immigration & Legal Services in Argentina

Are you a citizen of China or the Dominican Republic planning a trip to Argentina? There’s good news: Argentina now allows entry without an Argentine visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (AVE) — if you already hold a valid visa for the United States.

This new measure simplifies the entry process and can save travelers both time and money.

Who Qualifies for Visa-Free Entry to Argentina?

You can now travel to Argentina for tourism or business without a visa if:

  • You are a citizen of China or the Dominican Republic.
  • You have a valid U.S. visa in your passport.
  • Your trip will last 30 days or less

You no longer need to apply for:

  • An Argentine visa, or
  • An Electronic Travel Authorization (AVE).

Extensions may be possible under regular immigration procedures.

This new policy does not grant residency rights or change the rules for staying longer than 30 days. For long-term stays, work, or relocation, you still need the appropriate visa or permit.

Legal and Practical Implications

  • Legal Basis: Argentina formalized this change through Resolution 316/2025, reflecting a flexible and pragmatic approach toward immigration for select travelers
  • Duration and Conditions: Qualified travelers can enter Argentina for tourism or business for up to 30 days, with the possibility of extension under existing immigration rules.
  • Reciprocity: This policy complements reciprocal visa waivers—China has already extended visa-free access to Argentines, balancing diplomatic and tourism dynamics

Argentina Opens Path to Citizenship by Investment: What You Need to Know About Decree 524/2025

Published: August 2025

Citizenship by Investment in Argentina Is Now a Reality

On July 31, 2025, Argentina published Decree 524/2025, which officially opens the door to a Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program. For the first time, foreign nationals can apply for Argentine citizenship without meeting the traditional residency requirement, as long as they make a qualifying investment in the country.

This significant policy change aligns Argentina with global trends seen in countries offering “golden visa” or “citizenship-by-investment” programs — but with a Latin American twist.

What Does the New Decree Say?

Under Decree 524/2025:

      • Foreigners who make a “relevant investment” in Argentina may apply for direct citizenship, even if they have not resided in the country.

      • An Agency for Citizenship by Investment is created under the Ministry of Economy to evaluate applications.

      • Applications will be reviewed with input from agencies including Immigration, Security, Intelligence, and the Financial Crimes Unit.

      • The criteria for qualifying investments will be defined by the Ministry of Economy in the coming weeks.

This means the program is legal and approved, but not yet fully active until the economic authorities issue additional regulations.

    Why This Matters

This decree transforms Argentina into an attractive destination for:

        • Digital nomads and entrepreneurs seeking dual citizenship.

        • Global investors looking to expand into Latin America.

        • Families seeking Plan B options for mobility, security, and new markets.

Argentina offers several advantages, including no wealth tax on foreign-source income for residents, access to the MERCOSUR trade bloc, and a legal culture open to immigration and foreign capital.

Caution: It’s Not Fully Launched Yet

As of August 2025, the program is not yet operational. While the legal framework is in place, the following are still pending:

          • Minimum investment thresholds.

          • Eligible sectors (e.g., real estate, technology, agribusiness).

          • Processing timelines and application portals.

At Buenos Aires Attorneys, we are closely monitoring the official publications and expected updates from the Ministry of Economy and the Immigration Office.
